Fashion logistics: Rinascente’s CeDi in Piacenza opens its doors to supply chain professionals

Fashion logistics is on the catwalk thanks to the visit to the Rinascente Distribution Center in Piacenza, organized by Gruppo Di Martino, in collaboration with CSCMP Italy Roundtable, a visit which allowed as many as 70 supply chain professionals to delve deeper into the peculiarities of the Piacenza hub.
The initiative, as explained by Igino Colella, president of CSCMP Italy Roundtable, is part of the rich program of events that the association organizes to encourage professional growth through the study and sharing of excellent logistics solutions.
The CeDi, which is spread over a covered area of 40,000 m2, operating on 3 levels, is managed by DRLogistics: a joint venture created in 2007 by Rinascente (30%) and Gruppo Di Martino (70%) to optimize the flows of the specialized retailer in the fashion, cosmetics and home decor sectors.
LOGISTICS HAS NEVER BEEN SO FASHION
The tour of the warehouse, led by Fabio Di Martino, of the Di Martino Group Corporate Management and Libera Lubrano, DRLogistics Operations Director, allowed visitors to grasp the complexity of the flows that pass through the warehouse – from entry to shipping, operations managed in full outsourcing by the logistics operator F.lli Di Martino – and the technological solutions applied to single-piece product management logistics.
The plant manages inbound flows of over 3,000 suppliers in the fashion sector (clothing – hung and hung – accessories, shoes and luggage), cosmetics, wine and chocolate, home and dry food, with a storage and order preparation capacity of over 1,500 ,000 articles/year, thanks to the activity of 120 employees.
The DRLogistics Piacenza hub deals with the replenishment of 9 Rinascente stores located in the main urban centers of the Peninsula which manage a total of 2,000 brands to satisfy the purchasing desires of over 21 million visitors every year, generating a turnover of 811.2 million of euros (2018).
“It is an exemplary structure”, commented Luca Brandellero, Member of the CSCMP Italyroundtable Board and promoter of the event, as it presents completely peculiar characteristics: a high number of suppliers, large quantity of items managed, need for pre-sales processing of products. The world of commerce is changing and this plant demonstrates how logistics is able to adapt to new needs.”
FASHION AND GREEN
The visit was also an opportunity to delve deeper into the green commitment of the Di Martino Group which, in addition to focusing decisively on the development of intermodal transport, is investing in its fleet with EURO VI and LNG vehicles so as to be able to reduce CO2 emissions by 102,000 tonnes in 2018 compared to 2017.
Having to operate in urban centres, attention to sustainable transport is particularly important in the Rinascente service, as underlined by Paolo Ferraresi, Operations Director of Niinivirta – Di Martino Group – who has developed a series of tailor-made green services in the city logistics sector using 100% electric vehicles.
